‘To live or to perish, this is a question to be considered: which is the nobler of the two acts, to suffer the tyrannical poisoned arrows of fate in silence, or to stand up to the endless miseries of the world of men, and sweep them away by a struggle?’
--Line 1
‘The madman leading the blind man on his way would have been the general pathology of the age. And so we lived, and prayed, and sang, and told old stories ......’
--Line 2
‘Tomorrow, and another tomorrow, tiptoeing along day after day until the last second; life is nothing but a walking shadow ...... full of noise and commotion, but not a bit of meaning to be found ...... ’
--Line 3
‘Dangerous thoughts are supposed to be a kind of poison, and though they taste little bitterness in the beginning, gradually moving through the blood they explode like sulphur ore ......’
--Line 4
In Denmark. In Venice. In Scotland. In Britain. One tragedy after another is unfolding. Whether green or grey, when the hourglass of the protagonist's life starts counting down, they have to stare into the abyss of fate. Entangled in the thorns of power until they wither, is the rose of love dyed red with blood.

Shakespeare's Plays Reading Together
William Shakespeare
After the first reading of Russian realism, Lumos will start with a thematic reading of a play by the great master of theater, Shakespeare. Unlike the previous sessions, we have chosen to use the English text, and two new leaders will lead the readings.

What is a script reading?
A script reading is an event in which multiple people sit around and read a script aloud. It is a form of performance between a script and a performance. By sitting together and reading the script before rehearsal, the writer or director is able to make a judgment in advance and demand more precision from the script or the actors. Playwrights also use this as a way to polish their scripts, often holding multiple readings from the beginning of the writing process to the final presentation.
Through these readings, we can deeply appreciate the beauty of dramatic language, the ups and downs of the plot, and the intensity of emotions. With face-to-face reading, the actors are able to grasp the rhythm and emotion word by word, and a script reading is also a memorable emotional exchange for the actors.
Why attend Shakespeare's Plays Together?
